Jake Smith Confirmed by Presiding Bishop

Jake Smith, son of Mark and Katherine Kirzinger Smith, was confirmed by the Most Rev. Dr. Katherine Jefferts Schori, Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, Saturday, May 17, at a diocesan service of Holy Baptism, Confirmation, and Reception, held at All Saints Camp and Conference Center in Grayson County. Congregations from all over the Episcopal Diocese of Kentucky sent candidates and representatives.

Kentucky Heartland Outreach Workday at St. Thomas

Kentucky Heartland Outreach (KHO) and Campbellsville University (CU) joined to give back to several Campbellsville institutions, including St. Thomas. As part of CU's Welcome Week activities, students had the opportunity to participate in Service Days. Sites included area churches, such as St. Thomas and Campbellsville Baptist Church, and local service organizations, such as the Campbellsville Fire Deparment and the Campbellsville-Taylor County Rescue Squad. Don McGuire

Memorial Service celebrating the life of Don McGuire will be held Thurday, August 9th, at St. Thomas Church at 4 p.m. Donald D. McGuire, 83, husband of Laura, and and an active member of St. Thomas Church, died unexpectedly Saturday evening at Taylor Regional Hospital, Campbellsville, after becoming ill at home earlier that evening. Don was a native of Louisville, where he was baptized, confirmed and grew up in St. Mark's Church on Frankfort Avenue. He served a total of six years in the United States Army Air Corps and the United States Air Force during WW II and the Korean Conflict. Don attended the University of Louisville, University of Texas, and graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1956. He then began over 24 years of service with the U.S. Dept. of Defense Map Service as a cartographer. Don was responsible for producing maps used by U.S. astronauts for the first lunar landing. After retirement, he and Laura moved to Boone, NC, and lived there until four years ago when they relocated to Campbellsville at the suggestion of St. Thomas parishioners and good friends Dick and Joan Kirzinger. A service of remembrance and thanksgiving was held at 4 PM on Thursday, August 9, at St. Thomas Church, with the Revs. Karl Lusk and Louise Mann officiating. Contributions are suggested to St. Thomas Church, the American Heart Association, or the American Diabetes Foundation. Mass in the Grass and Cook-out

St. Thomas parishioners enjoyed "Mass in the Grass" and a cookout at the home of Lisa and Navell Spivey on Sunday, August 5. In addition to the Eucharistic and cook-out feasts, a "Blessing of the Backpacks" marked the beginning of the local school year in Campbellsville. The blessing liturgy included not only backpacks, but their owners, teachers, and school staff from both local school systems, Campbellsville University, and Lindsay Wilson College.

Karl Lusk Graduates from Seminary

Sunday, May 20, at Second Presbyterian Church, Louisville Karl Lusk graduated from seminary. Karl received a a Master of Arts in Religion, with concentration in Religious Thought from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. It was the 154th Commencement of the school's history. The Commencement speaker was Rev. Dr. J. Deotis Roberts, author, professor, and pioneer of black theology and modern American theology. His commencement address, “The Presence of God’s Kingdom,” was based on the biblical text from Matthew 6:7-14. Pictures below

Mongolian Dinner Attendance Reached 30

The Mongolian Dinner held at St. Thomas, April 21, 2007, was a great success with 30 people present, members and visitors. Campbellsville University international student Davaajargal Dorjsuren, or "Dawa", prepared several traditional dishes.

Karl Lusk Ordained to the Diaconate

On Saturday, April 14th, Karl Lusk was ordained to the Diaconate in Christ Church Cathedral, Louisville, Kentucky.  Bishop Ted Gulick presided.  The sermon by Rev. On Wednesday, February 28th, Karl Lusk was the Chapel/Convocation speaker at Campbellsville University.  Karl was very graciously introduced by Mr. John Chowning, Vice President for Church and External Relations at Campbellsville University.  Mr. Chowning introduced Karl as a good friend who put his Christian faith into action.
