Angels in our lives 12/21/2008
This weekend Warren and I decided that we needed a new ornament to top our Christmas tree. The old star was broken and refused to be wired together even one more time. As we sat Friday night looking at the tree we agreed that our first choice would be an angel this time. After breakfast on Saturday we braved the crowds of shoppers in search of the perfect angel to put on our tree. We began at the mall here – we did agree on one thing – that this was one day to avoid Walmart. We searched everywhere else we could think of. We even went to Hansen, hoping that one of the shops there would have the perfect angel. First, we discovered that either angels are not “in” this year – or that they are very, very “in” because we had trouble finding any at all. The one that we did locate was all right, but not the vision I had in my head atop our tree and it seemed silly to spend the money that they wanted for a less-than-ideal angel. It made me realize that – even to put atop a Christmas tree – angels are elusive creatures. Angels rarely present themselves in the guise that we envision – not to mention appearing where and when we’d like or expect.

Helpful Advent Ideas for Children & Youth 11/01/2007
If your town is like most, Halloween is already gone and Christmas decorations are sprouting up all over. It seems like the "materialistic" side of Christmas begins to start quicker and quicker each year, and as that happens, the true meaning seems to become lost underneath the need for the newest game system or elmo. If you're looking for creative ideas for the children and youth of your parish to get back to the true meaning of Advent, click below.

Celebrating 50: Holy Trinity Church prepares to begin new era of service 09/01/2006
On Sunday, Oct. 8, people will gather at Holy Trinity Church to celebrate the congregation’s 50 years in Brandenburg and embrace, for the second time, the beginning of a new era of ministry and mission. The anniversary celebration will begin at 10 a.m. (EDT) with Eucharist, celebrated by Bishop Ted Gulick. The reception afterwards will feature a collection of still photos and a video presentation chronicling the life of the congregation, which actually began its ministry in Grahamton early in the 20th century when it was led by Fr. Gorter. In 1941, the U.S. government bought Holy Trinity Memorial Chapel in Grahamton as part of the Fort Knox expansion, but the congregation remained together, worshiping in the home of Joe and Maggie Allen until 1954 when the Rev. Courtney Carpenter broke ground for the new church on land donated by the Olin Mathieson Chemical Corporation.

Stewardship, services to aid church ministries was focus of Fall Leadership Conference 10/30/2006
Encouraged by young Episcopalians’ passionate involvement in Millennium Development Goals initiatives to eradicate poverty globally, Bishop Ted Gulick urged leaders of the diocese’s congregations to cultivate an understanding of stewardship as an act of giving out of desire and moral responsibility rather than out of guilt and obligation. Noting that most congregations are now engaged in their annual stewardship campaigns, Gulick explained that it is important for us to see that we are made in God’s image and, like Jesus, are a gift to the world. Stewardship, he said, is best illustrated and explained by Jesus. “What is the one nonliving entity that Jesus gave a name to?” Gulick asked. “Mammon, which is Aramaic for money. You cannot serve God and serve Mammon. Money can take on something like a personality, said rabbi Jesus.”
